I have several Bible’s that I use during my study time. I like to look at the wording of each translation, compare them and meditate on the differences and the similarities. There is one that I love though, it’s my NLT Life Application Study Bible. (Red Letter Edition)
This Bible is my favorite. It’s full of handwritten notes, there are post-its, highlighted areas, dates, prayer requests, dog-eared pages and coffee stains from hours of study. Those words written in black and red have shaped and molded me. I have felt peace in heart-wrenching times and I have felt conviction when I’ve stepped outside the boundaries of those words. It’s by the leading of the Holy Spirit that I’m able to read and interpret how to live my life. It’s not my own. I belong to Him. Freedom is found there.
Today is election day. In all that is whirling around us in our country, so many uncertainties and opportunities.. I am more than ever confident in the words of the Holy Bible.
According to my NLT study Bible, the book of Revelation has a purpose of revealing to the reader, the full identity of Christ. It is to give a warning and a hope to believers. The Apostle John wrote this to believers and the seven churches in Asia. Scholars believe that those seven churches were under persecution by the hand of Emperor Domitian. John was exiled by the Roman authorities to the island of Patmos. John had a vision, one that revealed what was to come in the future. There would be judgment and the ultimate triumph of God over evil.
In Revelation 19:9-10, John fell down at the feet of an angel to worship him. The angel said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers and sisters who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship only God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.”
This angel was telling John that he was just like us, brothers and sisters who are testifying about our faith in Jesus. We worship God and God alone. We are to give a clear witness for Jesus. Not a muddy, hard to see when times get tough, but a clear 20/20 focused in on witness for Jesus.
I always pray before I study, sometimes I like to play a praise song.. it’s just a way that I prepare my heart for time with Jesus. This morning I listened to a song by Natalie Grant called, “King of the World.” The title perked up my spiritual ears. Just like the song says, “When did I forget that You’ve always been the King of the World?”
These lyrics reminded me of a time when I could only read those words written in red. The last thing we see written in red is this:
“…Yes, I am coming soon!”
This causes an urgency to rise up in me. I want to live stronger for Christ. Do you want to live stronger too? Do you want to raise up a generation of believers that know the Jesus of Scripture? If you truly want to live stronger for Jesus. Having a strength that comes from Him. Then you must study, you must pray. Join up with a Bible believing church. Reach out in your communities with the good news of Jesus! Teach the children that the Lord has entrusted to you about Christ. Pray with your family and pray with your friends.Proclaim today, Jesus is the King of the World! Now.. start living like you believe it!!
Till next time!
